Scream Wilhelm, scream!

ABC takes a look at the "Wilhelm scream."
First used in the Southern Western (is that a genre?) Distant Drums, the scream of a soldier being pulled under the water by an alligator was most likely recorded by Sheb Wooley (yes, that Sheb Wooley) who appears in the film as another character. The scream takes its name from the first character, a Pvt. Wilhelm (Ralph Brooke), who utters the cry in 1953's The Charge at Feather River.
The scream has been reused hundreds of times in films and TV shows including A Star is Born, StarWars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Toy Story, Reservoir Dogs and The Venture Brothers.
