The Shakey's in Charleston, S.C. seemed to always have a loop of Jason and the Argonauts playing and seemingly-endless pitchers of tasty root beer. We used to — and may still have — a songbook of olde tyme favorites from Shakey's. The last time I went to a Shakey's was the one in Kingston, Jamaica in 1985; the razzmatazz seemed to be on the wane.
I've been to Shakey's twice in my lifetime - during the mid-80s and four years ago. Can't say I enjoyed the experience. The "razzamatazz" was completely gone and replaced with scum and chaos.
