Leave it to Beaver turns 50

Debuting October 4, 1957, the same day the USSR launched Sputnik, Leave it to Beaver showed a — now oft criticized as overly-idyllic — view of '50s childhood from a kid's perspective. Show creators Joe Connolly and Bob Mosher drew from their own kids and their friends for story ideas. The show remains a classic and one of my favorites.
Tonight TV Land kicks off a marathon of Beaver episodes including the pilot which includes Casey Adams as Ward Cleaver and Harry Shearer as prototype of creep Eddie Haskell.
